THE CHALLENGE

After conducting an arc flash study for this client we identified a number of problems with the protection coordination. It was decided that the best option would be to carry out a protection coordination study to fully grasp the extent of the issues.

HOW WE HELPED

As a result of the protection coordination study, we proposed making changes to the settings on site. This needed to be done live and required project management from an experienced team who have completed tasks like this before. 

  • We led discussions with the client and contractor to develop a plan to safely and reliably complete the project.
  • We assumed the role of Project Supervisor Design Process, and developed a Project Scope of Works, Preliminary Safety and Health Plan, Design Risk Assessment and Project Safety File to highlight any potential safety issues.
  • We also assumed the role of Project Supervisor Construction Stage and maintained the Project Safety File throughout the duration of the works. 

We were on site to supervise the implementation of the protection settings, and managed the project documentation to ensure the highest standards of safety and quality were adhered to.

THE RESULT

Protection settings throughout the MV network and main LV incomers were successfully updated to enhance coordination between devices. Coordination issues throughout the network were eliminated, resulting in a reduced risk of potentially costly outages.

THE CLIENT

The client is a global pharmaceutical company with a significant presence in Ireland. The site employs over 1,000 people and the high end production facility required a robust and reliable power supply.
