It has been a busy start to 2023, here’s a snapshot of what we’ve been up to.
Topics of Conversation
Power System Modelling
Carrying out regular studies on your power system is vital for identifying possible faults, ensuring reliability, and practicing electrical safety. We recommend using ETAP or SKM modelling software to construct a digital twin replica of your electrical network in order to optimise the design, monitoring, control, and automation of your power system.
Data Centre
Solutions
From working with data centres we know it is critical for their operations and consumer trust that they have a resilient and safe electrical power system. Our team of experienced engineers can offer a range of services to meet the needs of data centres. Whether they need day-to-day asset management, troubleshooting, renewable integration, or are planning an expansion we can help.
Pharmaceutical Solutions
Process equipment can be sensitive to voltage dips, high harmonic content, or transient interruptions which can cause quality and reliability issues for an electrical system. With our knowledge and specialist studies, we can help pharmaceutical sites avoid power outages and downtime ensuring their critical electrical systems are safe, efficient, and reliable.
Recent Projects
Harmonic Filtering
A lovely example here from a recent project where a client was experiencing harmonics on-site. We were able to supply and commission a Schaffner Active Harmonic Filter to eliminate the harmonics and improve the power supply to the site. Pre-commissioning and post-commissioning waveforms are represented in the graphs above.
Wind Turbine Control System
With a push to introduce renewable energy sources, we have seen an increase in requests from clients for the ability to control the power being produced. Our engineers have developed a custom logic that can be deployed on Schneider Electric meters enabling us to track the demand for power on-site and then instruct the wind turbine on what to produce to meet this demand. Using the dashboard below, clients can visualize this in real-time, and see where the power is being used.
Arc Flash Analysis
A great example from a recent project on the importance of our arc flash studies. On the left, you can see the incident energy at this location was quite high at 37.7 cals/cm². This poses a greater risk to employees and equipment at this location. After some changes to the protection settings on the right, you can see we significantly reduced the incident energy to 18 cals/cm² reducing the arc flash risk and improving coordination at this location.
Recruitment
Senior Power Systems Engineer (Remote)
This 12-month contract role will provide you with the opportunity to work remotely on a full-time basis. The role will provide you with the full remit of power system engineering analysis and consulting to leading clients in the technology, pharmaceutical, and construction sectors to help them diagnose, resolve and maintain optimum safety, productivity, and performance.
New Starter
We welcomed Wongwa Giqwa to our team. Wongwa joins us as a Graduate Electrical Engineer from University College Cork. She’ll be working with our power systems team putting theory into practice and developing her skill set. We are delighted to have her onboard and excited to see where her career takes her.
