ELECTRICAL RISK MANAGEMENT & SAFETY PROCEDURES

We will work with you to advise on and help develop your risk assessments and safety procedures associated with the use of electricity at work. Following on from risk assessment, we help implement any requirements highlighted, such as the development of procedures, permits to work, and electrical safety training.

RISK LEGISLATION

Health, safety and welfare at work legislation imposes the duty on every employer to identify hazards in the place of work under their control and assess the risks to employees and any other persons who may be exposed. Action should then be taken to determine the necessary preventive and protective measures.

We identify hazards and assess the risks associated with direct and indirect contact with live parts, electrical arcing, electrical fire and explosion, and mechanical movement of electrically-driven equipment.

RISK ASSESSMENTS

Risk assessments conducted by Premium Power ensure that where unavoidable, those risks are thoroughly assessed and the relevant statutory provisions are taken into account. Suitable controls are then determined and implemented in order to minimise those risks.

Our documented risk assessments include:

  • Description of the electrical hazards, including those of direct and indirect contact, arc faults, electrical fire and explosion, and mechanical movement of electrically-driven equipment
  • Details of potential injury
  • A comprehensive list of the current risk controls in terms of those that reduce the likelihood of occurrence, and those that mitigate the potential injury arising from hazardous events/exposures
  • Recommendations, where appropriate, to reduce likelihood of occurrence of the hazardous events/exposures and/or mitigate the potential injury arising from hazardous events/exposures

RISK MANAGEMENT

For some lines of work hazards are unavoidable, however an employer must identify, assess and prevent as much as reasonably possible the risk to their employees. Without our expertise and audits you risk:

  • Damage to plant and electrical equipment
  • Shutdown of the plant
  • Production loss
  • Reputation damage
  • Injury to employees
  • Workers’ lives lost

HAZARD IDENTIFICATION

When conducting hazard identification and risk assessments we work closely with our clients to ensure total accurately. The results of the risk assessments help us develop the subsequent safety procedures, permit systems, training and competence requirements, and maintenance procedures relating to

MSD Ballydine - Electrical Safety Integration

We worked directly with the MSD Ballydine plant after MSD Corporate Safety issued global guidance on the safe installation, use and maintenance of electrical equipment and systems to significantly improve the safety of workers and prevent arc-flash related hazards.

The MSD Ballydine Engineering Department needed to develop a new electrical safety programme that ensured compliance with Irish health and safety legislation, laws, regulations and standards and reflected the corporate safety standard guidelines.

"Our system for development of client specific electrical risk assessments and procedures has been gaining recognition within the industry. So much so, that a programme we developed and delivered for one of our pharmaceutical clients was shortlisted for Pharma Industry Awards 2015."
